Dorothy Jean Henry, of Orange, passed away at Harbor Hospital of Southeast Texas on February 9, 2016 at the age of 82. Dorothy was born on August 31, 1933 to parents Irene (Kolb) and Otis Brett in Hull-Daisetta, Texas. She moved to Orange, Texas when she was a child and lived here ever since. After all of her children were grown and her husband passed, she worked at the Little Cypress Junior High Cafeteria, and after that worked as a door greeter at Walmart. ESD 3 Wants New Building
The Little Cypress Fire and Rescue Department will keep operating as usual even though big sales tax payments will be ending. Bobby Manshack, a board member of Orange County Emergency Services District No. 3, which governs the fire department, said the payments from International Paper will end this month because the mill is now part of the city of Orange. "Our intentions are to continue to operate," Manshack said. On Monday, the Texas Comptroller's Office announced December sales tax payments to entities that collect the tax. Two Collisions in Orange
A Bridge City teenager told Orange police he was talking on his cell phone when he ran a stop sign and collided with an SUV. The collision at 10th and Main streets caused the SUV to hit a fire hydrant. Flying debris damaged a Chevrolet SSR pickup truck parked at Harry's Appliances. Orange police were called to the accident at 4:32 p.m. Tuesday. According to the police report, a Toyota 4Runner driven by Patricia Staudt was traveling north on 10th Street when it was hit by a Ford Escape traveling eastbound on Main. BC Discusses Housing
The council chamber at City Hall was a full house for a workshop Tuesday to discuss the possibility of an affordable housing project coming to Bridge City. Arx Advantage from Austin and the Park Company out of Mississippi want to build 55 single family units on Martin Street in Bridge City. Representatives from the two companies twice previously spoke to the City Council seeking a support resolution from the council. There are three candidates for the position of executive director for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation. The Board of Directors for the Economic Development Corporation met Wednesday morning and reviewed the applications received for the position of executive director. County Judge Brint Carlton chaired the meeting. Carlton said three applications were received by the deadline and two applications came in late.
