BC Council Hears Citizens Concerns
Citizens filled the council chamber and spilled into the hallway at the City Hall in Bridge City Tuesday night. The City Council considered approving a resolution of support for Canal Place a proposed 55-unit, single family, affordable housing complex in Bridge City. Three citizens spoke against support for the resolution. Trudy Pellerin told the City Council low income housing is not the economic development that Bridge City needs. A 59-year-old Orange man has been sentenced to federal prison for conspiring to possess crack cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced U.S. Attorney John Malcolm Bales Feb. 17. Grover Lee Roberts pleaded guilty on November 24, 2015, to Conspiracy to Possess with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Ron Clark. Tuesday afternoon the Commissioners Court met in Vidor for the second time ever. The City Hall was the same venue as when the Commissioners met last March in Vidor. The meeting was once again very well attended. All of the Court thanked Vidor Mayor Robert Viator and City Manager Mike Kunst for the invitation to hold the meeting in Vidor. Lions Den Shooter Arrested
Orange police said an argument concerning a young woman led to a 23-year-old man being shot in the shoulder about 7:30 Tuesday morning at Lion's City Park on Main Avenue. Within four hours, Orange police arrested a 19-year-old man for aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. Police identified the victim as Patrick Roberts. He was taken by private vehicle to Southeast Texas Medical Center in Port Arthur before police arrived. His injury is not life-threatening. Pinehurst on Tuesday morning hosted the first Coffee With The Mayor. The informal meeting gave citizens an opportunity to meet with Pinehurst city officials. City Administrator Robbie Hood believes the first Coffee With The Mayor was a success. He believes the meetings will help citizens put faces with names and job titles to inform citizens who to contact when they have a need.
