Schools and child care businesses did well in health inspections during the first two weeks of February. Orange County Health Inspector went to 21 schools or businesses dealing with food and gave nine perfect scores. The lowest score was a 78 to the Donut Palace on Highway 12 in Mauriceville. The store had demerits for sausage and boudain found at unsafe temperatures plus meat stored above raw donuts inside coolers. Orangefield Tennis Team participated in the Hardin Jefferson Invitational Tournament on Friday. Several teams advanced to quarterfinals this week. Boys “B” Doubles teams, Blayne Milstead and Colby Childers and Ty Hawkins and Griffin Patterson were defeated in the quarters. EDC Hires New Director
The Board of Directors for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) approved Friday hiring Jessica Hill as the new executive director for the EDC. Three applications were received for the position of executive director before the deadline. Hill was the only candidate interviewed by the Board of Directors. Keith Wallace chaired the meeting and stated Hill was clearly the best choice for the position of executive director. City and School Board Election Set
The West Orange-Cove CISD board election has drawn six candidates for three positions with two incumbents and two former trustees on the ballot. The candidates are incumbents Linda Platt-Bryant and Bryan “Chop” Thomas Muhammad. Others are Demetrius Hunter, Bonnie Moses and former trustees Tony Dallas and Ricky Jacobs. Lanxess Changes Name
A new name will be installed on Chemical Row in Orange. The "Lanxess" sign will be replaced with Arlanxeo in April after federal authorities have approved a joint venture by Lanxess and Saudi Aramco. According to a media release, the name change will begin April 1. In September last year, Lanxess and the Aramco signed an agreement to create a multi-billion joint venture. The venture is a 50-50 agreement, according to the media release. Aramco is a state-owned company of Saudi Arabia and Lanxess is based in Germany. Chase Ends With Arrest
The driver of a pickup truck that led police on a high-speed chase from Orange to Bridge City had to be subdued with a Taser shock gun early Thursday morning. Orange police report the Dodge Ram pickup hit a Dodge Avenger sedan on MacArthur Drive. Officer L.T. Holland with the Orange Police Department reported he was in his patrol car in the parking lot of a business in the 2300 block of MacArthur Drive at 1:26 a.m. Thursday.
