The Bridge City Cardinals have lost six starters from last year’s district championship team. Coach Chad Landry does have some players back to lead the Cardinals in their efforts to capture another district title. Six spots in the starting lineup need to be filled for the Cardinals. Landry does have some positions already penciled in on the lineup card. Justyn Romero a sophomore will start in centerfield and in the leadoff position. The coach thinks he will be a good one. The defending district champions are the Bridge City Lady Cardinals. Coming to Bridge City to take over as head coach is Kayla Gallardo who was the assistant coach at Orangefield. Coach Gallardo has four returning seniors from last year’s team. To fill in the holes caused by graduation Gallardo has some good young ladies to play. Rollover Accident Kills BC Man
On February 25, at 1:19 AM, officers with the City of Orange Police Department were dispatched to the 6600 blk of N Lutcher, in reference to a roll over accident. Upon arrival and investigation it was determined that a red 2003 Dodge pickup, driven by 51 year old, Roy Arthur Allen of Bridge City, was traveling west bound when he lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway causing his vehicle to turn over. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn. Man In Bike Accident Dies from Injuries
The bicyclist who was hit by an Orange Police Department patrol vehicle early Tuesday morning has died of his injuries at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. 19-year-old Devon Lynch Lestage was riding the bike on the eastbound Interstate 10 access road near Adam's Bayou when he was struck about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the collision because it involved an Orange police officer. Natalee Smith of Orangefield and Emily Williamson from Silsbee were chosen to be ball girls for the Baylor Lady Bears in their game against Iowa State. Orangefield’s Dennis Vansa moves up from his assistant coach position last year to be the Bobcats’ head coach this season. Vansa has several players returning for Orangefield that have seen a lot of playing time for the Bobcats. Junior Dylan Anthony has already played two years on the varsity for Orangefield. Doucet Wins Art Contest
Jaci Doucet, a student at St. Mary Catholic School, participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Quick Draw Still Life contest held at the Reliant Hall on Saturday, February 20. There were 600 entries and 70 students from the junior high and high school level selected to participate. Within the junior category only 26 students were allowed to participate. Doucet won the JH division and was awarded a week to the Glacell School of Art in Houston this summer which is valued at $1,500 among other prizes.
