Receding flood waters have allowed Lamar State College – Orange personnel to do a preliminary assessment of damage to the campus. Both the Wilson Building and the Green Avenue Building were flooded. Water reached a depth of 10” in the Green Avenue Building and 3” in the Wilson Building. Both buildings will need drywall repair and flooring replacement. The Beaumont Police Department brought a K-9 to search a flooded wooded area for a man who escaped after being arrested. The man ran off into a section of flood woods west of Highway 87 near Bear Path. Homeowner Protects With Machete
A burglar was critically injured Tuesday night by a resident who attacked him with a machete, according to Orange police. A police report said officers were called about 10 p.m. to a disturbance at a house on Lutcher Street, which in the subdivision by Sunset Park. The subdivision is on the west side of the railroad tracks. The opposite side has been under mandatory evacuation since Monday night. Bridge City celebrated an important anniversary for the city’s library Thursday, St. Patrick’s Day. The Bridge City Library located off of West Roundbunch Road at 101 Parkside Place Drive is 25 years old. Mayor Kirk Roccaforte is proud of the services provided by the Bridge City Library and its staff. Mary Montgomery is the head librarian assisted by K’Lynn Ess. Roxie Louise Rascoe, 91, of Bridge City passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Gulf Health Center in Port Arthur. Roxie was born on August 26, 1924 in Limona, Florida to parents Zenobia (Ward) and James Rabb Hutchinson. She had lived in Bridge City since June of 1950 and was county clerk in Precinct 3 in Orange County for 10 years, retiring in 1987.
