Margaritte Raymond “T-Bo” Brittain, of Little Cypress, passed away on March 18, 2016 in Mauriceville, at the age of 90. Margaritte was born on September 30, 1925 in Shelbyville, Texas to parents Ozelar (Anderson) and Clamond Jesse Raymond. She had lived in Orange for 69 years, prior in Shelbyville, Texas. She was a homemaker who helped raise a loving, close-knit family. Margaritte enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, quilting, and canning food. Cox Wins At Raven’s Nest
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears golf team participated in a Regional Preview tournament on March 17-18th at Raven's Nest Golf Club hosted by Huntsville ISD. FEMA Assistance Available
WASHINGTON – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the State of Texas to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding beginning on March 7, 2016, and continuing. The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Jasper, Newton, and Orange counties. Saturday Update
A cold north wind blew through Orange County Saturday morning pushing the rushing river water out to the Gulf faster. The Cooper's Gully pump station went full force churning the draining water into the swift Sabine and streets were clearing. By late afternoon, most streets in Orange were clear of water. Water still stood at some places like the curve at DuPont Drive by the Port of Orange. The waters covered the soccer fields, the roadway and vacant land on the other side of street. Rosalie Clark has a schedule to follow for putting on the annual St. Joseph Altar and she wasn't going to let something like an epic flood stop her. "I kept telling the water 'you WILL go away.'" St. Mary's Catholic Church will hold its 17th annual St. Joseph Altar service and feast on Saturday because the water went away. Well, almost.
