HOT Funds Approved
The full Commissioners Court met in the Vidor City Hall Monday morning because of the uncertainty with the availability for the Administration Building at the Courthouse last week when the agenda was released. The Court approved Hotel Occupancy Tax funds for both the Mauriceville Crawfish Festival and the Texas Barbecue Festival in Vidor. The two festivals will be held on successive weekends in the later part of April. Each festival will receive $8,000 in HOT funds. Dr. Herman Leslie Rudeseal of Orange, TX, died March 19, 2016, in Hemphill, TX, at the Hemphill Care Center. He was a month shy of his 95th birthday. Born April 13, 1921 in Lewis, Louisiana, to Frank Herman and Mabel Miller Rudeseal, he grew up in Vivian, Louisiana. There he met and married his wife of nearly 76 years, Clydelle Cook Rudeseal. Together they had six children. A veteran of WWII, Herman served as a Sergeant Major in the US Army Military Police Corps in the Pacific. Doris Jean Manning, of Orange, passed away on March 19, 2016 at Harbor Hospital of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, at the age of 84. Doris was born on February 4, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Hannah and Francis Fielding. She had lived in the Orange area for 62 years, prior in Brooklyn, New York. The City of Pinehurst will be getting a new attraction in a little over a week. The Kingdom Zoo Wildlife Center will be opening in April on Strickland Drive. Chester Moore said the center at 1605 Strickland Drive will use about 100 animals to reach children in a special way. Moore is excited that animals help him reach kids that have lived through a lot and bring them something comforting. He hopes to follow in his grandmother Ruby Pickard’s footsteps with Wild Wishes to allow children to have animal encounters while also contributing to the city of Pinehurst. Stark Cultural Venues Reopening
(ORANGE, TX) Orange, Texas and the surrounding region were hit hard by the recent flooding. We know that many of our neighbors are deeply affected by this disaster and remain out of their homes. All Evacs Lifted
As of Sunday 4:00pm, March 20, 2016, the Orange County and the City of Orange evacuation orders are lifted. County services will resume Tuesday morning for normal business hours. The flood waters are now below major flood stage. There have been no reported injuries or fatalities from this flooding event. During the event, all calls for assistance were answered effectively and all victims were rescued safely. The County of Orange will be coordinating debris pick up as a result of the March Severe Weather event. The debris generated as a result of the flooding should be separated into (Construction and Demolition debris), (White Goods- refrigerators, etc.), and (Green-vegetative debris). Please place these debris piles curbside without protruding into the roadway as not to interfere with traffic or emergency vehicles.
