Orange Police Weekend Reports
Orange police have started an investigation of a possible sexual assault after a resident in the Brownwood area found a "disturbing photograph" left in a backyard after flood waters went down. The resident of the 2300 block of North Fifth Street called police about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Officer J.E. Roy reported the resident gave him the photograph. Monday, Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the photograph was of a sex act between an adult and a juvenile; so police are investigating. Brownwood Victim Identified
Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said 39-year-old Shane Austin Cooper apparently died from lacerations by "a small bladed weapon." Patrol officers found Cooper's body about 2:30 a.m. Thursday lying in the roadway of the 500 block of North Street in the Brownwood neighborhood. Captain Enmon said Monday detectives have been interviewing people and have a person of interest. People living around the area of the attack made a 9-1-1 call to police to report a disturbance. The Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has a new Executive Director. Jessica Hill is excited about taking on her new position with the EDC. TIC To Reopen Soon
The Texas Travel Information Center on Interstate 10 east of Orange has been closed to the public for over two weeks. The center closed its doors as normal at 5:00 Sunday afternoon, March 13, and was not reopened because of the flood waters from the Sabine River. As of Sunday the water has receded from the driveway and parking lot at the Travel Information Center. State Senator Robert Nichols serves on the Senate’s Transportation Committee.
