The ATM stolen from a convenience store Tuesday morning in a smash-and-grab break-in has been found empty in Houston. The thieves stole two pickup trucks in Orange before using one of them to ram through the front of the store so they could steal the cash machine. Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said investigators believe the thieves were from out of town. The Shell store at 1955 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive was hit by the thieves about 2:40 Tuesday morning. Old Bus Station Torn Down
The small cinderblock building that once served as the Greyhound Bus station in downtown Orange was quickly reduced to rubble Wednesday afternoon. Lamar State College-Orange President Dr. Michael Shahan said the college cleared the corner site near the post office to make more room for parking. The bus station building at the corner of Fourth Street and Elm Avenue was more recently used as an insurance office by the late Ben Culpepper. Buses have not run out of the station for about 25 years. Red Cross Honored At CC
The Commissioners Court approved a proclamation Wednesday that recognized the American Red Cross as everyday heroes. Larry David and Ida Schossow accepted the proclamation on behalf of Red Cross. David said the recent flooding disaster of the Sabine River was a major event. David indicated Red Cross has categorized the flooding disaster as a Category 4, its highest rating, and there are actually two disaster areas, one in Texas and one in Louisiana. LCM One Act Wins District
The LCM UIL One Act Play Company claimed the District 24-4A Championship this past week at Lamar Port Arthur. The group received a first place ranking from all three judges on the panel. Additionally, Mariah Blair and Kaylee Pattillo were named to the Honorable Mention All Star Cast while Sydney Smith and Tyler Regan were named to the All Star Cast. The technical crew of Shawn Blair, Dalan Jones, Cade Bonin, Richard Warner and Sarah Middlebrooks were named the Top Technical Crew of the contest. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs took sole possession of first place in District 24-4A with a 4-2 road win at Bridge City Tuesday. WOS scored in the first when Jack Dallas scored KJ Miller after Miller walked, stole second and reached third on an error.
