City Doesn’t Plan to Sue SRA
Orange City Attorney John Cash Smith said the city is not planning to sue the Sabine River Authority for the recent flooding of the Sabine River. Smith, who previously represented the river authority in lawsuits, said the river authority releases water from Toledo Bend dam based on federal guidelines and cannot be sued. Gulf Protection Meeting Thursday
The rescheduled public meeting on a hurricane protection system on the upper Texas Gulf Coast will be Thursday evening at the Orange County Expo Center on FM 1442. The meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include a presentation of a plan for gulf storm protection in six counties. Orange County is a member of the Gulf Coast Community Protection and Recovery District. Other counties are Harris, Galveston, Chambers, Jefferson and Brazoria. North Alabama pitcher Raven Cole (LCM) was chosen the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week. Cole (21-1) tossed a no-hitter, striking out eight and allowing three walks in a six-inning, 8-0 shutout. On Sunday, she held her opponent to one earned run, in a 6-2 complete-game win. She struck out five to help the Lions complete the sweep. Cole is the third UNA pitcher to toss a no-hitter this season.
