Low Interest Loans Available
The "Small Business Administration" name is a misnomer. During a disaster, the federal agency can provide low-interest loans to homeowners, renters, schools and non-profit groups, in addition to businesses, to help them recover. The SBA and FEMA are in Orange and Newton counties to help victims of the March Sabine River flood. The deadline for filing to get assistance is May 18. Susheel Kumar, spokesperson in Orange for the SBA, said homeowners and renters may qualify for loans at an interest rate of 1.81 percent. The payback for the loans might be extended through 30 years. Orangefield Elementary will have Kindergarten Round-up on Thursday, April 28th, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. To be eligible for public school a child must be five (5) years of age on or before September 1, 2016. Parents of an eligible kindergartner are required to bring the child’s immunization record, a certified copy of their birth certificate (issued by the county in which they were born), and proof of residency (the top portion of an Entergy bill with your street name on it) to the registration. Pickup Hits Garbage Truck
Two people were injured Wednesday morning when a Ford F-250 pickup truck ran into the back of a garbage truck on Texla Road in Mauriceville. DPS Trooper Stephanie Davis said the driver of the pickup, 23-year-old Alexander Burnett was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. He was being treated for head and neck injuries. The driver of the garbage truck was 44-year-old Robert LaFleur of Beaumont. He had minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to a hospital. Leutloff Located And Arrested
At approximately 12:00pm, Jason Michael Leutloff was arrested near the Econo Lodge on 11th Street by Beaumont Police Officers. At this time, Leutloff has been transported to the Orange County Jail facility. Leutloff will be booked into the jail on the two outstanding felony failure to stop and render aid arrest warrants that were issued earlier this week. Vidor Loop Planning
The Commissioners Court Tuesday gave approval to proceed with pre-project development of the proposed Loop 299 in Vidor. In a split vote with only Commissioner David Dubose casting a dissenting vote the Court will authorize Scott Young of Strategic Planning and Program Development Inc. to start the discussions with the Texas Department of Transportation to continue the planning for what has been called the Vidor Loop.
