OHS Art Wins Cash
The Eighth Annual Law Day Art Contest was held last week at the Beaumont Federal Building. Orangefield High School had three of the twelve finalists. The art of all the finalists will be framed and will hang in the Court Rooms and hallways for one year. As a Finalist, Tierney Rice was presented a check for $50. The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School JV Softball Team claimed District! They were 22-1 for the year and 10-0 in district! The Orange Rotary Club is honored to present $3,000 to the LCI Stay and Play program to help fund a portion of the playground equipment needed for the children. Rotary International’s motto is “Service Above Self” and the members of the Orange Rotary Club strive to look for opportunities to serve our community. Earlier this year, the Orange Rotary Club sponsored a benefit concert as a fundraiser to help raise the funds for this $3,000 donation. Business Receives 60K from City
Business owner James Gilliam will be getting a $60,000 city of Orange economic development grant for renovating 707 W. Front Avenue into office spaces. City Council and the city Economic Development Corporation board of directors unanimous approved the expenditure. Gilliam owns Bates and Company and has the majority of shares in the H.T. Group, a staffing and recruiting business. Gilliam told the two groups he plans to spend at least $350,000 to $380,000 on the building. Reinvestment Zone
The Commissioner Court Tuesday approved a reinvestment zone for a 13-acre tract of land in the extra-territorial jurisdiction of Bridge City. The reinvestment zone is necessary for the county to grant potential tax abatement or other incentives to prospects moving to the location. Jessica Hill the Executive Director of the Orange County Economic Development Corporation said she and her predecessor Bobby Fillyaw have been in discussions with a prospect since last year about the property off of Highway 62.
