Hugh Gibson Jones, age 96 of Orange, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 25, 2016. Hugh was born in Dodson, Louisiana on Monday, September 15, 1919 to the late Jane Hutto and Hugh Alson Jones. He was a resident of Orange, Texas where he lived the majority of his life with his loving wife of 76 years, Evelyn. Hugh served valiantly in World War II in the United States Army, in which he held the rank of Staff Sergeant, and worked, as a mechanic. Auction a Success
Bidding was fierce Wednesday evening for a black-and-white photograph of a landmark Orange live oak tree. The work by West Orange-Stark High student Roxy Martinez entitled "Dancing Oak," sold for $235. The money is going to charity. Student photographers at WO-S raised $2,285 for four local groups by selling their artwork. Under teacher Lacey Hale, the students went on a field trip around town with cameras and imagination. Two-term Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD School Board member, Marlene Courmier, has been appointed to the Texas Association of School Boards Legislative Advisory Council. Former Chief Indicted
Grady Gray, a former chief for the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department, was indicted Wednesday on a felony charge of indecency with a child by touching. He was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail. He is now released on a $15,000 bond. District Attorney John Kimbrough said the West Orange Police Department investigated the case and presented it to the grand jury. He said the victim was a child under the age of 17. Police Looking For Shooter
Orange police are looking for the driver of a tan Honda Accord who fired a gun at a pickup truck outside a convenience Wednesday morning. No one was hurt. Police at 7:40 a.m. went to the Star Stop at 1101 Green Avenue, the corner with 10th Street. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said two men were arguing in the store and outside the store. One of the men got into a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup and was driving away. When he got to 10th Street and Main Avenue, a few yards away, the truck was hit. Man Killed By 18-Wheeler
On April 28, 2016 at about 4:45 pm the Orange Police Department responded to the report of an auto-pedestrian accident on the south IH-10 Service Road at the intersection with State Highway 62. Officers arrived to find that Ernest Lee Brown, a fifty-five year old white male from Vidor, Texas, had attempted to cross the south service road in front of a stopped truck tractor. SRA Board Member Resigns
A board member for the Sabine River Authority who made an email joke about the March Sabine River flood has submitted her resignation, the Longview News-Journal has reported. Kimberly Johnson Fish of Longview was appointed to the river authority's board of directors by Gov. Greg Abbott in December and took her seat in January. The river authority's administrative offices are in Orange. In March, record flooding occurred on the Sabine River with the level reaching 33.24 feet in Deweyville where the flood level is 24 feet. Baylee is a senior at Orangefield High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society and FFA.
