LCM Bands Successful
Little Cypress-Mauriceville secondary schools have had another successful competition season. From the High School, both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Bands received Superior, the highest rating possible, in both Stage and in Sight-Reading portions of the contest. The Little Cypress Junior High Symphonic Band received an Excellent Rating on Stage and Superior in Sight-Reading. The Concert Band also received an Excellent in Stage and Superior in Sight-Reading. Abandoned Dogs Rescued
The Orange police and fire departments teamed up Sunday evening to get two young, small dogs out of a locked abandoned car. Police reported the car was found at 401 North 16th Street at 6:55 p.m. The address is the strip center at the corner of 16th Street and Green Avenue. The fire department got the dogs out of the car and they are now at the Orange Animal Shelter on Simmons Drive. Animal control officer Andy Borel described them as a mixed terrier breed. Mold was plaguing some Orange County food businesses and leading to demerits from Orange County Health Inspector James Scales. Scales went to 21 food-related businesses in the last part of April and gave only four perfect scores, including one to Lucy's Cafe on MLK Drive in Pinehurst. The Star Stop on Highway 12 in Mauriceville tied for the lowest score with the Waffle House on Highway 62 in Orange. Both had an 84. The other stores with scores of 100 were Crawfish Capitol Sales in Mauriceville, Dollar General in Orangefield and New Beginninz Academy on Meeks Drive in Orange. Shot Man Is Wanted Man
The man who was shot outside in the Sabine River Park apartment complex early Friday morning is wanted by Houma, Louisiana, police on several charges, including attempted first degree murder. Orange Police Detective Captain Robert Enmon said Lorenzo Barrow was shot several times about 2:30 a.m. Friday at the complex formerly known as The Oaks, 111 Pine Avenue. Barrow is in stable condition at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. A 59-year-old resident of the complex was shot in the arm while he was asleep on his couch by a stray bullet during the shooting.
