Services will be held at the Dorman Funeral Home chapel on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Dorman Funeral Home from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. BC Water Tank Repair
The City Council in Bridge City awarded the contract Tuesday to repair and paint the city’s water storage tank located on FM 408. CFG Industries was the low bidder, but their initial bid was over the amount budgeted by Bridge City for the project according to City Manager Jerry Jones. The city budgeted $246,000 for the project, but CFG bid $267,750 to do the work. Jones said they negotiated with CFG and the two parties agreed for the amount budgeted to be awarded in the contract. On the evening of May 30, 1923, people in Orange gathered around the Southern Pacific train depot to watch a train that was not scheduled to stop. They hoped to see a glimpse of a woman who had grabbed national and international headlines for months. The infamous "hammer murderess" dubbed by the press as "Tiger Woman" was going back to San Quentin Prison in California. Clara Phillips, who was only 23 years of age, had beaten a 19-year-old widow to death with a hammer in July, 1922. She escaped from prison and later ended up in Honduras with a man, money and arms. Debris Pickup Begins In Orange
The City of Orange has begun picking up damaged debris as of Monday, April 4, 2016, in areas within the City where homes were affected by the recent Sabine River flooding. This service will continue to run for an additional 30 days to give citizens in the City of Orange who were affected by rising water more than a single opportunity to have damaged materials and debris removed. Commissioners Meeting Held Tuesday
Claiborne West Park and the Orange County Parks Department have been without a director since the retirement of Donna Scales at the end of March. Tuesday Commissioner Barry Burton made the motion to appoint Mike Hale as interim director for the Parks Department. Burton added the appointment of an interim director will allow Hale to take care of the business of the park including processing invoices and making some purchases. Students from both Mauriceville Middle and Little Cypress Junior High Schools were recognized for their essays in the 2016 Do the Write Thing Challenge. The contest, which takes place all across America, encourages students to rise to the challenge of doing something to end violence among young people.
