About 120 people attended the observance of the National Day of Prayer on the lawn of the Orange County Courthouse. A choir sang hymns and led the singing of the National Anthem to begin the program. County Judge Brint Carlton read the proclamation from the Commissioners Court recognizing the National Day of Prayer and prayed for members of the armed services. West Orange-Stark QB Jack Dallas has had a pretty good year so far and a better last two weeks. The WOS baseball team made the playoffs, he received his state championship ring, he received offers to play football and baseball at Lamar, and he recently won a contest to be on the cover of FNF (Friday Night Football) magazine. Sun Loan Gunman Sentenced
An Orange County jury Wednesday found a 24-year-old man guilty of aggravated robbery of the Sun Loan Co. and gave him a punishment of 30 years in state prison. Mason Paul Butler was accused of being the gunman when four young men robbed the 16th Street loan company on August 24, 2015. It was the second day-time robbery of the business in two months. The jury spent about 45 minutes to determine he was guilty. Witnesses included the woman working inside the business. Early Vote Totals For Sat. Election
The Bridge City school board race drew the most early voters for Saturday's elections. Early voting ended on Tuesday and the district had a total of 938 early votes. The Bridge City school board race has three contested contests. Incumbent Rebecca Rutledge is running for Place 3 against Bryan Gremillion. For Place 4, incumbent Thad Hill is being challenged by Bryant Champagne. Incumbent Jerry McInnis is facing Brandy Slaughter for Place 5.
