Orange fire fighters responded to a house fire at 3632 Bowling Lane Thursday afternoon. They arrived to find flames coming from several locations. Council Discusses Nativity Scene
The Orange City Council has informally agreed to put up a Christian nativity scene and add representations from other religions. City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre went over options Wednesday during a budget workshop and asked the council for direction. Oubre recommended buying new nativity to replace the one the city bought in the 1970s because it will not look good next to the new symbols purchased. He said a new nativity will cost $7,500 and more. He said the council could decide which one to buy. A display of symbols could run $20,000. Donation Hoping To Seal The Deal
Gisela Houseman and the Houseman Companies are donating 10 to 20 acres of commercial property off Interstate 10 to help the city of Orange attract a big box store. Tuesday, she told the city Economic Development Corporation board she hopes the store comes and will promote growth in Orange and provide jobs. City Economic Development Director Jay Trahan said big box stores need incentives to locate to a community. Free land is one of those incentives. National Dance Day in Orange started two years ago as a celebration of dance with a fun free event at Riverfront Pavilion. Broussard Indicted By Grand Jury
The Orange County Grand Jury has indicted Carl Jacob Broussard, 54, on two cases of Failure to Stop and Render Aid. These cases are alleged to have occurred on November 2, 2015, on MacArthur Drive in Orange. Two people were killed in the accident and Mr. Broussard is charged with leaving the scene. Bond has been set at $100,000 on each case. Each case is a second degree felony, punishable by two to twenty years in prison and a fine of $10,000.
