On August 3, 2016, at approximately 11:00p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety was notified of a motorcycle crash on FM 2802 in Orange County. The crash occurred approximately three miles North of Vidor. A 1993 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling westbound on FM 2802 when it struck a black cow in the roadway. The driver, Robert George Cahill, 48, of Vidor was pronounced dead at the scene. Cahill was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. BB Gun Produces Serious Situation
An off-duty sheriff's deputy Monday stopped three teenage boys, two with pistols that turned out to be BB guns, from robbing a 13-year-old. The attempted robbery happened about 5:10 p.m. in the 1400 block of Green Avenue in downtown. Cliff Hargrave, who is retired from the Orange Police Department and is now working for the Orange County Sheriff's Office, caught the three robbers near his business. OPD Detective Captain Robert Enmon said Hargrave had the boys on the ground at gunpoint after seeing one of the boys with a gun. BC Still Working on Water Issues
Bridge City is addressing the increased level of contaminates in the city’s water system. The city sent a letter to citizens this past weekend after being notified by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality of the contaminates level. Utility Superintendent Mike Lund for Bridge City gave the details of the letter. Lund admitted the city was in violation going over the allowed levels of contaminates. The letter also stated at the current levels that if a citizen drank the water in 15 to 20 years they could have detrimental health conditions. County Employee Insurance Approved
County employees had their insurance package for next year approved by the Commissioners Court Monday. County Judge Brint Carlton indicated rising insurance costs caused the Court to change the insurance plan. Carlton said employees will have an increase in their deductibles to $2500, an extra $5 for office visits, and an additional five to ten dollars for medication co-pay. The new plan will cost the county about $4.3 million, but the previous plan would have been an additional $160,000 according to Judge Carlton. Richard Carl Bodin was born in Port Arthur, TX on August 28, 1948 to Lloyd and Zoe Bodin. He passed away on August 3, 2016. Carl had a career with Gulf Oil that became Chevron in Port Arthur. He was a bulk oil supervisor. He coached Little League and Pony Colt baseball in Port Arthur. National Weather Service says: Tropical Storm Earl has finally gotten its name as it traverses the Northwest Caribbean. Maximum winds are near 45 MPH. Some strengthening of the storm could occur before it makes landfall along the Eastern coast of Belize tomorrow evening, but Earl is not expected to become a hurricane at this time.
