ATM Burglar Caught By BC Police
Bridge City police early Sunday morning arrested a Louisiana man inside the Market Basket store on Texas Avenue. Detective Danny Hodges said the man had a grinder and was trying to cut into an ATM inside the store. Police are investigating whether the man is connected to similar break-ins in Orange last week and others in Beaumont and Lake Charles. Thieves Hit Area
Two trailers and two ATVs were stolen from three houses in the Little Cypress area during the weekend. A trailer with an ATV was taken from a driveway in Greenway Park, and in the Cypress Bayou neighborhood, a Polaris Razor was stolen from a garage and a 16-foot utility trailer taken from a yard. It isn't the first time this summer thieves have targeted SUVs and trailers in Orange. July 8, someone took a trailer with three ATVs from a driveway in the Silver Oaks subdivision. BC Library Open After Renovations
The first phase of renovations to the Bridge City Public Library is complete. The library reopened Monday after being closed for most of August to allow for renovations that have expanded the facility. Librarian Mary Montgomery said the renovations have been in the works for over a decade. Montgomery credits the Friends of the Library for working since 2005 to raise all the funds that made the renovations possible. A lot of grants were also written to help with the construction. Demolition Ordered
The City of West Orange took a step closer Monday to demolishing five substandard structures in the city. Attorney Alan Sanders advised the City Council via telephone that the city should issue orders for demolishing the properties in question. Sanders informed the council that to his knowledge none of the property owners had made any improvements to the structures or received permits to begin any work in the eight years since Hurricane Ike.
