Mark Mitchell, a manager at DuPont, recently presented a check for over $2700.00 to Captain Frankco Higdon of The Salvation Army of Orange. These funds were donated by the employees of the DuPont Sabine River Works plant to support local disaster relief. LC Lions Club Donates To Deweyville
The Little Cypress Lions Club completed their donation to Deweyville Elementary when office furniture was delivered Tuesday to the new elementary school trailers. Bass Limit Drops To 12 Inches
Beginning Sept. 1, 2016 the size limit for bass in the Sabine River will drop from 14 inches to 12 inches. After State Representative Dade Phelan filed HB 1979 the Texas Parks and Wildlife determined through a study that dropping the limit would not damage the bass population in the river. The change in size will not only help the local fishermen bring home a few more fish to fry, but will increase the chances of bringing more bass tournaments to the area. Commission Approves Restoration Plans
Another house in the Old Orange Historic District is getting a restoration. The City of Orange Historical Preservation Commission Tuesday approved the plans. The two-story house with expansive porches is 502 West Cypress Avenue at the corner of Fourth Street, about a block north of the post office. The house was formerly owned by the Bubba Voss, who died 25 years ago. He once traveled as a trumpet player with the Barnum and Bailey Circus. ATV Owners On Alert
All-terrain vehicles, known as ATVs or four-wheelers, are popular for recreation in Southeast Texas not only for people who buy them, but also for thieves. This summer has been particularly bad for owners of ATVs and low-boy type trailers. Night-time crooks are hooking the ATVs and trailers up to their vehicles and driving away as the owners sleep in their air-conditioned houses. Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn addresses the court on Tuesday. Elected officials got mostly good news Tuesday from the Commissioners Court. In a vote of 3-2 the Court approved proposed salaries for elected county and precinct officers. The change in salaries will mean a pay raise for many of the elected officials and an increase in the county budget. Man Found Holding Baby
A man faces three charges, including endangerment of a child, after police found him Monday night intoxicated lying in a dark area along a highway with a baby. Orange Patrol Officer M.T. Roush reported he found the man lying on his back with his legs in drainage ditch with two feet of water in it. The 1-year-old baby wearing a T-shirt and diaper was on top of the man's chest.
