A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Lamar Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas with a lunch to follow. Officiating will be Pastor Warren Wargo. Officer Ronnie Denton from Bridge City Police, came and spoke to BCE's 1st graders Tuesday. He spoke about how police officers are one of the many community helpers and how students should not be afraid to ask them for help. He also explained what a policeman carries on their belt and about gun safety. He also talked to the students about their part in bus safety. County Names New Auditor
Orange County has a new County Auditor. The local district judges have appointed Pennee Schmitt to the position replacing Mary Johnson. The change was necessary since Johnson announced months ago she was stepping down as the County Auditor because her husband has taken a new job in a different county, and she will be moving away from Orange. Schmitt has worked in the County Auditor’s office for two years after holding various public and private accounting jobs since her graduation from Texas A&M. Orange Police Reports
Trailer thieves damaged a pickup truck while moving it to get to the trailer full of landscape equipment. Orange police were called at 7:14 Saturday morning to the 1600 block of Carter Street off 16th Street. The owner said his Ford F150 pickup had been dragged from the front of his yard to a neighbor's front yard. The truck had been in the 'park' gear and the transmission was damaged. The trailer attached from the truck was stolen. It contained tools and the landscaping equipment. Orange police reported several other thefts and burglaries during the long holiday weekend. – A 47-year-old former Orange County Sheriff’s Detective has pleaded guilty to federal violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales Tuesday. Chad Wayne Hogan, of Orange, pleaded guilty to an Information charging him with money laundering Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin. The City of Pinehurst had a large crowd at their Annual Senior Citizens Labor Day Picnic Monday. The music was furnished by the Big Thicket Band.
