Bridge City received a bit of a delay in starting up its new water filtration system. The city is installing new filters to the water wells, but is not adding any new treatments so Bridge City thought no state permits were required. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) informed Bridge City permits are required for the new filters. City Manager Jerry Jones said this will mean a slight delay for implementing the water filtration program. Pirates Try To Rebound This Week
The first River Bowl against Evadale inflicted the first loss of the season on the Deweyville Pirates. Coach Lance Dale indicates that is only one game and that does not make a season for Deweyville. Dale states, “The Pirates’ attitudes are great, they know what their goal is and what they’ve got to do to get there and they are on track to make the playoffs.” This week Deweyville travels to Galveston to play the O’Connell Buccaneers. LCM Homecoming Court
Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School will crown the 2016 Homecoming King and Queen on Friday evening at Battlin’ Bear Stadium, prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff. At 6:15 p.m., the beaus and sweethearts of the school organizations will be introduced, followed by the presentation of the homecoming court and crowning of the King and Queen. House Fire On White Cedar
A home at 3401 White Cedar (off of Meeks Dr.) caught fire Sunday night around 8:30pm. The fire started in the garage which was a total loss. The home also received serious smoke and water damage. Deweyville ISD Opens Portables
Starting this week about half the previous number of students will be attending classes in the Deweyville High School than started the school year. That is good news because the portable buildings bought by the Deweyville Independent School District will now be used for classes by the elementary school grades. Classes started today in the portable buildings. Flooding in March caused the closing of the Deweyville Elementary School. All grades were housed in the Deweyville High School for the last two months of last school year.
