Lorene Camp of Pinehurst was celebrating her 74th birthday with a trip to New York City. While she was in flight, the pilot came on with an announcement that shook her and everyone else on board. A jetliner had flown into the World Trade Center. "Oh, Lord, we were scared," she said Friday remembering September 11 fifteen years ago. Second Tax Rate Hearing
Almost as many concerned citizens, about 50, attended the public hearing Friday on the proposed tax rate increase as participated in the first public hearing on Tuesday night. The hearing Friday also lasted over three hours with citizens questioning the Commissioners Court on its need to raise taxes for the services provided to the citizens. Rhonda Vercher summed up the sentiment of most of those attending the public hearing. Beware of Unmarked Cows
A West Orange woman escaped injuries in a crash that left one dead Thursday on Highway 87 South. Orange Patrol Officer M.C. Bernard reported the cow she hit died. The 33-year-old woman was driving a Chevrolet Impala northeast in the outside lane of the 1700 block of Highway 87 South in the vicinity of Cypresswood Drive. Officer Bernard reported "for unknown reason(s) a small unmarked cow was in the lane of travel." The front right side of the Impala hit the right side of the cow.
