The Field of Plenty is a community garden operated by Orange Christian Services. Sandra Hoke says there will be a workday at the Field of Plenty on Saturday morning. Volunteers are welcome to come and help between 8:00 AM and about 11:00 AM. Hoke indicates the community garden is designed to grow fresh vegetables for Orange Christian Services which then provides them for needy citizens. Bond Set At $1 Million On Sanchez
A 40-year-old Bridge City man is the Orange County Jail with a $1 million bond after being charged with murder in connection with the strangulation death of the mother of his children. 27-year-old Kara Marie Willingham, a Lamar State College-Orange nursing student, was found dead in her Bridge City apartment Wednesday evening after her mother went to check on her. Copper Thieves From Orange Caught
An Orange County couple is in trouble in Jasper County after the sheriff’s department says they were involved in the theft of copper in the far southern portion of the county, and then fled from deputies. KJAS reports that according to Lieutenant Matt Ortego, this all began a few weeks ago when deputies began investigating reports of the theft of copper and other metals from multiple sites along County Road 792, near Farm to Market Road 2246, in the Evadale area. A 28-year-old Houston man was given a ticket for failure to control speed after a chain reaction collision about noon Wednesday on Green Avenue at 16th Street. No injuries were reported. Orange police said a Lexus RX330 with a 20-year-old Lumberton man driving was stopped at the traffic light on Green with a Honda CR-V driven by a 43-year-old woman from Orange stopped behind. OF Mistake-Free To Beat Bears
Turnovers and mistakes last week cost the Orangefield Bobcats dearly as they lost their second straight game. This week Orangefield plays the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears. Bobcats’ Coach Josh Smalley points out that LC-M has switched to its old offense. The Bears have gone back to the Spread in an effort to get opponents to put fewer defenders in the box. Evans Sentenced To 45 Years
State District Judge Courtney Arkeen Wednesday sentenced a man from Orange to 45 years in prison for the sexual assault of a 9-year-old autistic boy who cannot talk. 49-year-old Tony Evans pleaded guilty to the charge on July 14. The sentencing was held after a pre-sentencing investigation. Orange Police Report Assaults
People were injured Tuesday during two separate aggravated assaults reported to Orange police. In one, a 68-year-old woman was hit in the face at her house. Her 20-year-old grandson was stabbed in the arm and hit in the head with a coffee mug when he tried to stop the attack. A relative was arrested. In the second one, a 21-year-old woman was pushed from a moving car on 16th Street. Police report she went to the hospital to be treated for a possible broken arm.
