Tuesday at approximately 9:15p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 87 and Cordrey Street in Orange. The crash involved a motorcycle and an Orange Police Department patrol unit. The preliminary investigation shows that the Orange City police officer was traveling westbound on Cordrey Street. The Pinehurst Police Department would like to thank the public for its help in identifying the white female responsible for the theft of donations from “Friends Helping Friends” located at 2112 35th Street in Pinehurst. Acting on a tip, which was received shortly after the surveillance video was released, Pinehurst Police Chief Fred R. Hanauer III located 39 year old Heather Nicole Griffin (AKA Heather Martin) at an address in Orange. Hood Gets Nice Raise
Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood received a pay hike Tuesday night. The City Council following a closed session approved a $6,000 pay raise for Hood who has served as the city administrator since April of 2015. Mayor Pete Runnels indicated the pay increase is reflective of the outstanding job done by Hood and the positive evaluation he received in June. It was recommended at that time of the evaluation the salary adjustment should coincide with the approval of next year’s budget. Judges Speak At Commissioners Court
There will be no raises in salary for elected officials in Orange County next year. Tuesday the Commissioners Court voted 3-2 for salaries of elected officials in the county to remain the same next fiscal year. County Judge Brint Carlton made the motion for no change in salaries, and he was joined by Commissioners Barry Burton and Jody Crump. Immediately following that vote Commissioner John Banken made a motion to cut $1,000 a month from the salaries of each member on the Commissioners Court saying it would save the county $60,000 for the next fiscal year. LCM Hosts OF For Homecoming
A change in offense resulted in a change of fortunes for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears. Coach Randy Crouch is proud of the effort made by the Bears prior to the game. A good week of practices got LC-M prepared for the game with Hardin-Jefferson. Crouch comments, “They worked really hard to do what they needed to do, and we had a good outcome.” This week LC-M plays the Orangefield Bobcats. Crouch says the Bobcats run the same offense as the Hawks did last week with the Slot-T. The Bobcats have a lot of size in their offensive line. Orange Council Hands Out Money
The train depot restoration will be getting more money courtesy of the Orange City Council. The council Tuesday decided to give more hotel tax money than the Friends of the Orange Depot requested. The city's Convention and Visitors Bureau advisory committee recommended giving the group its requested $15,000. The council decided to give $25,000. District 4 Councilor Annette Pernell, who lives in the Old Orange Historic District near the train depot, suggested the increase in money.
