Juanita Green was born Juanita Faye Riser in Newton, Texas on December 28, 1927. Her husband is Glen R. Green. They were married for 69 years. She left us on September 20, 2016. Her parents were Calvin Commodore Riser and Mary Emma Pence Riser, now deceased. Her brothers were Commodore Riser, Jack Riser, Willard “Bud” Riser, and John Robert Riser all deceased. Her sister Dovie Paulann Riser predeceased her as did her niece Paulann Alleman, who was like a sister to her. Her sister Bettie Becker survives her. Pinehurst Road Work
Starting Wednesday Sept. 21 at 8:00 a.m. the City of Pinehurst will be resurfacing 35th Street from West Park to Redbird. The road will be closed to all non-residents during the road construction. Pinehurst officials ask that if possible, avoid that area to avoid unnecessary traffic congestion or damage to vehicles due to tar or loose gravel. The work is expected to last for a week, weather permitting. Limb and trash pickup will be postponed this week and until the completion of the construction. City Has Issue With New Subdivision
The City of Orange is asking a state district judge to stop a developer from draining acreage from a new subdivision off FM 1130 into an existing ditch that runs behind the West Chasse subdivision. Orange Council Tables Decision
The Orange City Council is considering whether to let two churches get reserved space at Navy Park that could set a precedent for allowing other groups the same courtesy. One of the churches asked to hold a tent revival in the park for three days at the end of the month. The council last week discussed the matter but agreed to table the matter for a future vote. Sales Tax For July 2016
Sales taxes for the largest cities in Orange County remain strong for the year as the state comptroller has sent money collected for the month of July. The payments are: Bridge City (1.5 percent tax rate): $110,527 for the month and $1.126 million for the year to date. Orange (1.5 percent tax rate): $300,500 for the month and $3 million for the year to date. Pinehurst (1.5 percent tax rate): $44,602 for the month and $473,276 for the year to date. County Adopts Budget
Orange County Commissioners adopted their budget for next year following another packed public hearing Tuesday. The hearing lasted just under half an hour compared to the three and four hour hearings on the tax rate held the first week of the month. The Commissioners Court during its regular meeting then approved a budget which includes a $3.8 million deficit by a vote of 3-2. County Judge Brint Carlton is of the belief the county will tighten its belt and will not be in the red by the end of next fiscal year. On Sunday, September 18, 2016, about 7:37 p.m., the Vidor Police Department Street Crimes Unit was at Wal-Mart conducting Crime Suppression Investigations when they were alerted to a possible Theft.
