Pam Ellis Lakey, 67, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016, in Beaumont. The daughter of Printis “Pete” and Martha “Vicki” Ellis, Pam was born on March 25, 1949, in Ohio. The Ellis family found their way to Vidor, where Pam and her eight brothers and sisters were raised. She graduated from Vidor High School, and had been a lifelong Vidor resident. LCM Begins District On Road
The district war starts this week for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears. Coach Randy Crouch believes the war will not be won in this first game of the district. Five games make up the district battles in District 10-4A, and Crouch points out it will be competitive as always with no clear favorite. Grant For Meals On Wheels
A very short meeting of Commissioners Court was conducted Monday morning. The change in meeting days from Tuesday to Monday was to allow two Commissioners to attend training later this week. Commissioners approved a resolution certifying that the county will contribute actual funds to be used in a grant for the Orange County Meals on Wheels program this year. County Judge Brint Carlton explained the change by the county in funding the program that distributes meals for free to seniors and disabled citizens in Orange County. Deweyville Opens District Friday
The open week came at a good time for the Deweyville Pirates at about the mid-point of the season. Coach Lance Dale says the bye week allowed the Pirates to heal. Dale believes Deweyville is in good shape at this point of the season. Coming off the bye Deweyville starts district competition this week against the Groveton Indians. Dale indicates the Indians have a very potent offense with quarterback Glenn Thornton at the helm. Dale points out Thornton threw for over 4100 yards last season. Snake Road Claims Truck
A 42-year-old woman was taken to a Beaumont hospital Friday night after driving her pickup truck into a deep gully off 29th Street, or "Snake Road," in Pinehurst. Police Chief Fred Hanauer said the accident was about 8 p.m. at the gully where 30th Street intersects with 29th Street. The gully runs into nearby Adams Bayou. Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the gunman who robbed the Orange Cinema Saturday afternoon was wearing a floppy hat with a marijuana leaf on the front and the word "Kush" on the back. The man and a woman, who was also wearing a floppy hat, took cash from the employees inside the cinema during the robbery about 1 p.m. The man had a pistol. The movie "Storks" had already started. Middle Finger Turns Into Arrest
A man police wanted to stop because of a complaint of him "shooting the finger" at someone Sunday night led officers on a high-speed chase on the west end of Orange. A 25-year-old man now faces a state jail felony of evading arrest instead of a misdemeanor. West Orange Police Chief Jesse Romero said a patrol officer with his department took the complaint about the obscene gesture happening at the gas station in front of Walmart.
