Ronald Elo Ahlgrim, age 74 passed at his home with his family by his side on Sunday, October 9, 2016. Another Auto/Ped Fatality on I-10
A 45-year-old Michigan man walking along an Interstate 10 service road near Cow Bayou was killed Tuesday night after being hit by an SUV. The death is the third interstate service road pedestrian fatality within four days in Orange County. The Texas Department of Public Safety said the man was walking on the eastbound service road at Exit 867 near Cow Bayou. The site is opposite of Claiborne West Park. A Ford SUV was exiting the interstate about 8:30 p.m. and struck the pedestrian. The driver of the SUV was a 78-year-old man from Orange. OCC Puts 299 Loop On Approval List
The Commissioners Court voted unanimously Tuesday to advance the proposed Loop 299 project from the alternate list to the approval list with the Texas Highway Commission. Commissioner Jody Crump admitted he is an advocate of the so called Vidor Loop, but added Tuesday’s action does not commit the county spending any funds on building the proposed TxDOT roadway. Orange Council Joins Vidor In Not Supporting Loop
Vidor Mayor Robert Viator successfully urged the Orange City Council to oppose the county spending money on building a highway called "The Vidor Loop." Viator said citizens in cities pay full county taxes but do not get as many services. If the county needs to pay for the proposed loop, city residents will pay even more in county property taxes, he said. Pinehurst Council Meets
The Pinehurst City Council reappointed Debbie Cormier as the city secretary Tuesday night. Pinehurst Mayor Pete Runnels said Cormier is a great asset for the city. Runnels praised Cormier as going above and beyond in the performance of her duties as city secretary. She was unanimously reappointed for another year. Cormier has served as the city secretary since 2007. The council re-adopted an ordinance concerning the tax abatement guideline policy.
