Frances Lee Wise Brooks

Mrs. Frances Lee Wise Brooks, 85, of Conroe, Texas, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016, in Montgomery County. She was born June 13, 1931, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to parents Thomas A. Wise and Auby L. Wise. A former resident of Orange, she was a longtime resident of Conroe. Mrs. Brooks was a volunteer serving the special needs people of Montgomery County for 22 years. Her biggest thrill was her annual Halloween party for these clients at her house under the pavilion. Her gift to these children was her key to the gates of Heaven. Sheriff’s Office Reflects On Ray

Sheriff Merritt congratulates Tom Ray when he was promoted to Captain   Sheriff Keith Merritt and his staff are saddened to announce the loss of a valuable member of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.  Captain Tom Ray passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, October 23rd of a possible heart attack.    46 year old Ray, affectionately known as Tom Ray or T Ray, was a 1989 graduate of Orangefield High School and a 1994 graduate of the Orange County Sheriff’s Academy.  Ray began his career with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in 1993 as a Reserve Patrol Deputy and was … [Read more...] about Sheriff’s Office Reflects On Ray

Sheriff’s Captain Passes Away

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is mourning the death of Captain Tom Ray, who passed away Sunday morning from an apparent heart attack. Sheriff Keith Merritt told KOGT, "I was told he started having chest pains early Sunday morning and told his wife to call an ambulance.  They did CPR on him and brought him to a hospital in Beaumont but were not able to revive him." Ray has been with the Sheriff's Office for more than 20 years, and was promoted to Captain in February of 2014.  The 45 year old is survived by his wife Mariah. Motorcycle Accident Injures OC Man

At approximately 2:00p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of US 69 and FM 1003 in Hardin County. A Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound in the outside traffic lane on US 69.  A Dodge passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on US 69.  The driver of the Dodge made a left turn into the crossover, failed to yield and pulled out in front of the motorcycle.  The motorcycle slammed into the passenger-side of the Dodge and was thrown from his bike. Blanchard a Thorpe Award Semifinalist

Baylor junior nickelback Travon Blanchard was named one of 16 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame announced Monday. The Thorpe Award is named after history’s greatest athlete, Jim Thorpe, and is presented annually to the nation’s best defensive back. Blanchard has racked up 29 tackles (18 solo), 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery, while starting all four games that he has played in for the Bears in 2016. Brenda Gale Howard, 68 of Bridge City, Texas  passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 surrounded by family and close friends. She was the beloved wife of Jerry Howard of Bridge City, TX. Gale was born on December 1, 1947 in Bossier City, La.  She was the daughter of the late James Virgil Brown and Nellie Faye Streetman. Gale was incredibly kind and loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially her two precious grandsons, Tryce and Tate. Nobody asked for their money back after watching the Bridge City vs Silsbee game on Friday night. The two teams went toe to toe matching each others touchdowns with incredible plays, going for it on fourth down like they had a fifth down, and leaving it all on the field until the clock hit :00. LC-M receiver Keegan Sonnier (82) hauls in a reception for a 17-yard gain and a first down during Friday’s game against Huffman.
