Cards, Tigers Clash Friday
The Bridge City Cardinals have won their first two district games impressively. With three district games to go Coach Dwayne DuBois is thankful the Cardinals have avoided any serious injuries so far this season. DuBois hopes Bridge City will stay on that path. The district competition gets tougher this week for the Cardinals when the Silsbee Tigers come to town. DuBois points out the Tigers are explosive on offense using either the Spread or the I formations and with Calvin Tyler carrying the football. Juvenile Arrested at BCHS
A teenaged male was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly assaulting the chief of police for the Bridge City School District and a Bridge City police officer. According to a press release from Bridge City School Superintendent Todd Lintzen a 15-year old male was attempting to enroll in the Bridge City School District at the high school, but was told he could not do so without his parent or guardian and paperwork from his previous school. BC Council Approves BCPD Contract
The Bridge City Police Association has a new contract with the City of Bridge City. The City Council approved the contract Tuesday evening which will go into effect this month through September of 2017. City Manager Jerry Jones said there were only two items changed from the previous contract. The first item was a three percent pay raise which will be paid to all city employees this year. The second item dealt with the sick leave policy. “Old Cody’s” Coming Down
Question of the Day... What's going on at the "old Cody's" near the corner of 16th and I-10? Yes the building is being torn down and land is being cleared. TxDOT has been in the process of connecting the service road from 16th Street to Bob Hall Rd on both the north and south side of I-10. Orange Economic Development Director Jay Trahan said Jeff Mallett owns the land and contracted C&C Demolition to clear the area. However Mallett hasn't announced what he's going to do with the property. Commissioners Meet Tuesday
October marks the beginning of a new year for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). The Commissioners Court approved the amended by-laws and amended interlocal agreement for the EDC Tuesday. Executive Director of the Orange County EDC Jessica Hill is pleased with the new direction her office is going. The municipalities that left the EDC last year have returned and some new entities have been added. OC Health Inspections
Food businesses and restaurants continue to score high in health inspections even with some flies at a couple of places and mice feces in a storage room. Orange County Health Inspector James Scales went to 14 businesses during the first part of October and gave only one perfect score. However, they all received A's with the lowest score a 90. The 100 went to Whataburger, 540 North Main Street in Vidor. Scales also gave no scores after inspections at two places.
