Sheriff’s Captain Passes Away
The Orange County Sheriff's Office is mourning the death of Captain Tom Ray, who passed away Sunday morning from an apparent heart attack. Sheriff Keith Merritt told KOGT, "I was told he started having chest pains early Sunday morning and told his wife to call an ambulance. They did CPR on him and brought him to a hospital in Beaumont but were not able to revive him." Ray has been with the Sheriff's Office for more than 20 years, and was promoted to Captain in February of 2014. The 45 year old is survived by his wife Mariah. Motorcycle Accident Injures OC Man
At approximately 2:00p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of US 69 and FM 1003 in Hardin County. A Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound in the outside traffic lane on US 69. A Dodge passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on US 69. The driver of the Dodge made a left turn into the crossover, failed to yield and pulled out in front of the motorcycle. Baylor junior nickelback Travon Blanchard was named one of 16 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame announced Monday. The Thorpe Award is named after history’s greatest athlete, Jim Thorpe, and is presented annually to the nation’s best defensive back. Bobcats Win At Home Vs. Horns
It seems like district wins should count double, one for the regular season and one for the district season. Friday night the Orangefield Bobcats won a huge district game 27-16 over the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns at F. L. McClain Stadium. The win almost assures the Bobcats will go to the playoffs. The win was not necessarily pretty for Orangefield (4-4, 1-1), but with the victory the Bobcats can clinch a postseason appearance with a win next week against Hardin-Jefferson.
