Rodney Edward Fields, 71, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on October 27, 2016, in Vidor. A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial of his cremated remains at Del Rose Cemetery in Vidor. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on September 11, 1945, he was the son of Edward Alfred Fields and Minnie Vatter Fields. Rodney enjoyed riding horses, fishing, and mowing his grass. Seeing smoke coming from the back of the garbage truck, the driver of this Waste Management truck unloaded his trash Friday morning at the corner of Hwy. 87 and FM 105. Waste Management officials said the driver followed protocol correctly and the trash was picked up when another truck arrived. From past experience they said it could've been a cigarette that someone threw in the garbage thinking it was no longer lit. Early Voting Hits Five Figures
After four days of early voting, 11,127 Orange County voters have cast ballots. Thursday was the slowest day at the polls with 1,339 people voting in person. The Orange County Elections Administration office reports a total of 9,731 voters have gone to the four polls and another 1,339 mail-in ballots have been received. Yesterday the Orange box had 655 votes, Bridge City had 407, Vidor had 586 and Mauriceville had 208. Orange County has no contested local races. Burn Ban In Vidor Area
County Judge Brint Carlton signed an emergency order Thursday issuing a burn ban for Orange County Emergency Service District #1. The order prohibits outdoor burning in the Vidor area beginning Thursday and continues through Tuesday, November 1. The order states it was declared based on the imminent threat of disaster from fire and authorizes the imposition of controls on activities which increase the likelihood of fires. With a hold from KJ Miller, Chad Dallas puts one through the uprights. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs had their open week last week. Despite not having a game Coach Cornel Thompson states the Mustangs stayed busy. Several players with sore ankles are getting around better. Liberty was the focus of the coaches to get the players ready. Thompson put up signs in the locker room that it’s an open week, not an off week for the Mustangs. Whispering Oaks Two Months Away
A new low rent housing complex is about two months away from opening in West Orange. Whispering Oaks located on Memphis Street at Western Avenue is being constructed by Icon Builders. Construction Supervisor Tom Riggs said the complex will include 70 apartment units housed in five buildings with an additional clubhouse building. Riggs indicated over half the complex should be open and ready for occupying by the end of this year. He added that the other two buildings will probably be completed in early 2017.
