Holiday In The Park A Success
The weather was cloudy and mild, but no rain for Holiday in the Park at the West Orange Community Center and Park on Saturday. A good turn out of visitors came to check out the numerous booths that were selling jewelry, arts and crafts, Christmas items, yard displays, and tasty food. Bear Band Ready For State
The Battlin' Bear Band got a practice experience Friday in preparation for Monday's state marching contest. The high school students learned to expect the unexpected. Their equipment truck broke down on the way to Beaumont for a special rehearsal inside Ford Park. The band members quietly waited inside the arena until the truck arrived, late but with everything on board. The band will be playing inside San Antonio's Alamodome for the contest. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs did not hold back Friday night with the playoffs starting next week, as they outmanned the Orangefield Bobcats 60-0 to claim the district title outright. Seven different Mustangs scored including two punt returns for touchdowns by Jaron Morris. Jack Dallas threw four touchdown passes in the first half (KJ Miller 2, Keion Hancock, Rufus Joseph). Vidor Pirates Share District Title
For the first time in 38 years, the Vidor Pirates can call themselves district champions. The Vidor Pirates jumped out to an early 21-0 lead on the Memorial Titans and held on late for a 31-21 victory and, in the process, won a share of the district championship for the first time since 1978. Pirates running back Kolbie Humble powered the Vidor rushing attack with 189 yards on 17 carries, along with scoring all four Vidor touchdowns on the night.
