Work is still being done to improve the quality of water in Bridge City. Tuesday City Manager Jerry Jones spoke with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The state commission gave clarification to the city on some of the items it was looking into as far as the water quality in Bridge City. TCEQ informed Jones that it was going to rely on Napco the company adding chemicals in the water system to come up with treatments to address the brown water situation after the filters are installed. Orange P&Z Approves Expansion
Modica Brothers Tire Center at the corner of 16th Street and Lutcher Drive plans to expand westward along Lutcher Drive. Tuesday, the Orange Planning and Zoning Commission approved a zone change that would allow the company to operate on the two lots. The commission agreed to change the zoning from C-1, light commercial, to C-2, commercial. J.C. Modica of the tire company said some of the store's operations do not fall into the C-1 land uses. Retiree Insurance Approved
There was a very brief Commissioners Court meeting Tuesday morning with only six agenda items for consideration. The Court approved continuing participation in the County Choice Silver Program for Orange County Retirees. County Judge Brint Carlton said the approval was just a formality since the decision was really made back in the summer during budget meetings. Carlton reminded that the Court approved the program in the summer, but the actual fees were not made available until this month. Tractor Ties Up Traffic
At about 3:30pm Monday Jim Glass was cleaning up Jet cemetery on Old Hwy 90. His helper went to unload the tractor and unfastened the tie downs. Once the tie downs were removed it was decided that the trailer needed to be pulled up a few feet before unloading tractor. When the truck pulled forward the tractor rolled off the back of the trailer hanging up on the ramps which had not been lowered yet. The tractor was hung half on and half on the trailer in the southbound lane of Business 90 in front of the cemetery. LCJH Cuts Ribbon On New School
Principal Ryan DuBose and Dr. Pauline Hargrove, Superintendent of Schools for Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD, were the ribbon cutters at the public tour of the new Little Cypress Junior High. Dozens of staff, students, parents and former school attendees were on hand for the ribbon cutting and tour.
