On the first day of early filing, State Representative Dade Phelan filed his first bill for the 85th Legislative Session. HB 289 will provide an additional option for Child Protective Services (CPS) and judges to cut through the red tape of kinship placement in the state of Texas. County Shows Sales Tax Increase
Pinehurst is the only city in Orange County that has had a drop in sales tax income during the past five years. Other cities have had steady increases, according to information from the Texas Comptroller's Office. For September sales this year, Pinehurst received $54,513 and has collected $572,115 for the first nine months of the year. In 2011, the city received $69,442 for September and had $661,825 for the year to date. The city's nine month total this year is $89,706 less than five years ago. Bridge City Battles Bay City
It was a thrilling finish last Friday, and a good one for the Bridge City Cardinals. Coach Dwayne DuBois and his Cardinals move into the Area Round of the playoffs hopefully with the services of leading rusher Cayce Draper. Last week a 40-pound weight was accidentally dropped on Draper’s foot which kept him out of the game with Center. DuBois believes Draper’s availability will be a game time decision. Marshall Arrested
Orange County deputies Tuesday evening arrested a suspect in the armed robbery of the Mauriceville Family Pharmacy. Sheriff's Investigator Janois Grizzaffi said 42-year-old Thomas Lane Marshall of rural North Orange County was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was also arrested on a warrant from Jefferson County to revoke probation on a forgery conviction. Grizzaffi said charges of aggravated robbery are expected to be filed today. The rating for the school district is now "MET STANDARD". District administrators filed the appeal of the district accountability rating for the 2015-16 school year.
