UPDATE- Orange Fire Marshal John Bilbo is ruling the early morning fire of a vacant house on Cooper Drive as arson. He said it was the fourth fire at the address in recent months. One was outside and the other three fires damaged the house. The fire department went to the house in the 900 block of Cooper Drive at 5:30 a.m. Friday. Bilbo said the attic, where the fire started, and the roof were in flames when firefighters arrived. Vidor City Manager Mike Kunst has announced that Rod Carroll is nominated to be the next Chief of Police for the City of Vidor. The Vidor City Council will have a special-called meeting on Monday, November 21 at 7 pm to consider approving the nomination as required by the Vidor City Charter. Carroll is currently the Assistant Deputy Chief and Public Information Officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Appeals Court Rules On City Hall
Orange's Master Plan for the city is "a guide to the physical development" and "a tool for elected and appointed officials," not a law, the Texas Ninth Court of Appeals has ruled. The decision is a victory for City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre and the Orange City Council to move city hall from a historic mansion, its home for 70 years. Chase Ends With Man In ICU
A man who led Orange police and other agencies on a three-county high-speed chase is in intensive care at Beaumont hospital after swallowing "a quantity of methamphetamine," said Detective Captain Robert Enmon. During the chase, the driver hit a patrol vehicle that had gotten in front to try to slow him down, Enmon said. Lieutenant Eric Ellison was driving the patrol vehicle. He was not hurt and the vehicle had minor damage. One In Hospital After Accident
At approximately 8:40p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a one vehicle motorcycle crash on Hoo Hoo Road near Highway 62 in Orange County. A Suzuki motorcycle was traveling westbound on Hoo Hoo Road. The motorcyclist entered a curve at a high rate of speed and lost control of the motorcycle. The vehicle skid off the roadway, struck a concrete culvert and landed in a ditch. The driver, Devin Tyler, 25, of Orange, was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained serious head injuries.
