Last week West Orange-Stark faced an explosive Robinson Rockets team which the Mustangs defused for another solid victory. Coach Cornel Thompson was pleased with the performance, but was unhappy with some extracurricular activity on the football field. Some of the Rockets were trash talkers and a least one tried to take a punch at the Mustangs. The coach was concerned with his players showing a lack of discipline by retaliating. Commissioners Taking Applications
The Commissioners Court discussed Tuesday appointing a replacement for Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 David Peck who is retiring in January. The first action as stipulated by Assistant County Attorney Doug Manning was for the Court to officially accepted Judge Peck’s resignation effective January 3, 2017, which it did. The Commissioners then agreed to accept resumes and letters of interest for the position of justice of the peace in County Judge Brint Carlton’s office through Monday, November 28. Orange “Cajun” Christmas Parade
Papa Noël (a.k.a Santa Claus) and his quick-footed alligators will be heading down the Sabine to kick off the holiday season for the Kiwanis Club’s 87th Orange “Cajun” Christmas Parade. The lighted parade, being held in memory of the late Ben Culpepper, Jr., will include floats, bands, and dance teams from area schools, businesses, and organizations featuring music, costumes, and lighted displays in the Cajun culture tradition. Thanksgiving Closures
Pinehurst city employees will get a head start on a long Thanksgiving holiday. City offices there will close at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Other local government offices will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Orange County will be closed along with city offices in Orange, West Orange, Pinehurst, Bridge City and Vidor will be closed Thursday and Friday. Business will begin again as usual on Monday. Pinehurst weekly garbage pickup is on Tuesday so there will be no change. At 9:40am Tuesday morning a black male wearing black wind pants and a white hoodie with white shoes, robbed the Smoothie King at gunpoint. The Smoothie King is located off of Edgar Brown Dr. Witnesses said after taking all the money, he fled on foot towards the area of BC Bank on the other side of the old circle. Robert “Bobby” Arch Martin, 84, of Orangefield, Texas, passed away on November 21, 2016. A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Born in Jasper, Texas, on August 10, 1932, he was the son of J.A. and Odell Martin. Bobby was a member of a bowling league and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping.
