The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its ninth annual fall All-Sportsmanship teams. A total of 41 student-athletes were selected to the 2016 squad in the sports of men’s cross country, women’s cross country, football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball. The SCAC places a special emphasis on sportsmanship each year and is asking all fans of the conference to exhibit good sportsmanship at all conference functions. Accident Kills 18 Year Old
At approximately 12:30p.m., there was a two vehicle crash on Highway 87 in Newton County. The crash occurred about one mile south of Deweyville. Preliminary reports indicate that a 2014 Dodge pickup truck was traveling southbound on Highway 87. A 2001 Ford Escape was traveling northbound on Highway 87. The driver of the Dodge hydroplaned on the wet roadway, crossed the center dividing line and collided head-on with the Ford Escape. The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has seen 6 to 14 inches of rain fallen across parts of southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana since Friday night. An additional 1 to 3 inches of rain can be expected through Monday. Be careful for flooded roads during periods of heavy rain.
