Bryant Selected To First Pro Bowl
Bridge City's Matt Bryant has been selected to his first career Pro Bowl. The 15-year veteran leads all scorers this season in the NFL with 135 points. After eight years with the Falcons, Bryant broke former Falcons kicker Morten Andersen’s franchise record for points scored in week eight versus the Green Bay Packers. Bryant broke the record on an extra point in the first quarter following a 47-yard touchdown reception. Lamar Baseball Tickets On Sale
Season tickets to Will Davis’ first year at the helm of Lamar University baseball – in a 2017 season that features five NCAA Regional teams from the last two seasons at Vincent-Beck Stadium – went on sale Monday, the athletics department announced. Leger, White Plummer Award Grads
Lamar University honored six students with the Plummer Award, recognizing them as the top male and female graduates in December’s 2016 graduating class. LU President Kenneth Evans presented the awards during commencement ceremonies December 16 and 17 in the Montagne Center. The Plummer Awards honor the late Otho Plummer, who was chairman emeritus of the Lamar University Board of Regents and a longtime board member. The Chevron Phillips Chemical Company recently presented a check for $3,500 to the Lamar State College-Orange Foundation as part of an ongoing endowment to fund scholarships for students pursuing degrees and certificates in fields related to petrochemical technology. Lamar State College-Orange marked a milestone on Friday, December 16, at the Fall 2016 Commencement ceremony. Man Escapes Handcuffs
Orange police said a 21-year-old man arrested on a probation violation warrant got a hand out of a handcuff and ran away Saturday afternoon. Jecovin Provost has an Orange address and was arrested on two warrants from Jefferson County. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said he was found hiding in an apartment at the Park Avenue Manor in the 2500 block of Park Avenue. Captain Enmon said officers found a handgun reported stolen from Orange County inside the apartment, but Provost did not have the gun when he was arrested. Orange Police Reports
A person living in the Ridgemont subdivision shot and killed two dogs Sunday morning. The two dogs running at large had killed a smaller dog, according to Detective Captain Robert Enmon. Police were called at 8:48 a.m. Sunday to the 3600 block of Hemlock Lane. Captain Enmon said the two large dogs, reported as a pit bull and a boxer, attacked a killed a small dog. A neighbor came outside and tried to prevent the large dogs from attacking another small dog. Captain Enmon said no police action was taken.
