The quiet, well-behaved students sat politely and listened to tributes Tuesday morning from the Orange City Council. "Y'all have done something that's a magnificent feat," Councilmember Bill Mello said to the teenagers. The council honored the West Orange-Stark Mustangs football team and staff for winning a second straight state championship. Tuesday at the weekly Commissioners Court meeting, Valli Lott the retiring director of the Transportation Department in the county was thanked for her two decades of service to Orange County. Lott, standing in front of Commissioner Barry Burton, Judge Brint Carlton and Commissioner Jody Crump, was presented a plaque, and she wants to work around her home doing some painting and sewing during retirement. Just before Christmas break, Little Cypress Junior High band students and director David Wilhelm were very busy. Ten students earned chairs in the All-Region Band. Those students are (from left) Landon Acord, Spencer Layman, Allie Shaffer, Spencer Brister, Emma Kasti, Brianna Martinez, Blade Barlow, Rylie Dollar, Aiden Watson and Jace Peveto.
