Two are better than one! The Commissioners Court had a strong response to its Town Hall Meeting in October held at the Courthouse’s Administration Building. Next week the Commissioners will hold two Town Hall Meetings at the Orange County Convention and Expo Center. Both meetings will be on Thursday, January 26, the first at 2:00 PM and the second at 7:00 PM. Phelan Files Bill 1188
State Representative Dade Phelan has filed House Bill 1188 requiring newly purchased school buses to be equipped with three-point seat belts. A bus operated by or contracted for use by a school district for the transportation of schoolchildren shall be equipped with a three-point seat belt for each passenger, including the operator. This legislation does not apply to buses purchased before September 1, 2017. In 2015, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reversed their policy and stated that newly purchased school buses should have a three-point seat belt system. Man Arrested For Drug Possession
Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagner Jr. set a total of $30,000 bond Friday on a 21-year-old man arrested for drugs after Orange police searched a house. Several firearms reported as stolen were also found in the house, though charges related to the guns have not been filed. Rodney Dove has been charged with state jail felony possession of marijuana for having more than four ounces. He also faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance in connection with Ecstasy pills that were found at the house. Students Helping With Museum Mural
The Stark Museum of Art in Orange will be promoting an exhibition this spring with the help of local school students. Six schools in Orange County will be painting an almost 80-foot mural that will be used in conjunction with the Branding the American West exhibition. Amanda Burkhart with the Stark Museum described the new upcoming exhibition as a 20th Century reflection of the American West through films, photographs, and art. Thursday: On Thursday January 19th the Orangefield Powerlifting team competed in the Silsbee Invitational Meet. In the Boy’s division, Finishing 1st were Gavin Jackson in the 114lb class and Christian Louvier in the 165lb class. Joseph Auer (181lb) and Aaron Galitz (SHW) finished 2nd. Munchkin Parade Returns To Orange Mardi Gras
You should start seeing more purple, green and gold around town as the Mardi Gras season is near. The 14th Annual Krewe of Krewe's Grande Parade is scheduled for February 18 at 5:30pm in downtown Orange.
