Field Of Plenty Provides Fresh Produce
Orange Christian Services for decades has provided cans of tuna, boxes of macaroni and cheese, along with cans of corn and green beans to hungry families needing help. Sandra Hoke and other volunteers thought something was missing. "Everyone needs fresh produce," Hoke said. Hoke, Claire Smith and other gardeners were inspired to start The Field of Plenty, a community garden to raise vegetables and fruits for clients at Orange Christian Services. Small Fire At Camelot Apts.
A fire was reported earlier Monday at about 4:00 AM at the Camelot Apartments on Park Avenue. The Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department responded quickly with four fire fighters. Fire Chief Shon Branham said the cause was a heating switch that did not work properly which made the wiring to dangerously overheat. Branham added that a breaker switch did function properly and flipped off or the situation could have been much worse. It would not surprise this writer one bit if Matt Bryant kicks the game winning field goal for the Atlanta Falcons at Super 51 in Houston Sunday. A man living in the Little Cypress area had nearly $1,500 worth of tools stolen from the toolbox in the back of his pickup truck. The man, who lives in the 6700 block of Guy Lane called Orange police at 8 Friday morning after he discovered the theft. Police reported two Milwaukee Pex guns were stolen along with a Milwaukee right-angle drill, four boxes of brass Pex fittings, two arbors for hole saw and two boxes of hole saw. UTA sophomore Alexus Henry scored a personal best in the pentathlon and notched the second-best total in school history to highlight the first day of action at the J.D. Martin Invitational. Henry completed the five events with 3,546 total points. The mark smashed her previous personal record of 3,387 set a year ago. The school record is 3,658 set by Danielle Delage in 2013.
