Hogan Sentenced To Prison
A 47-year-old former Orange County Sheriff’s Detective has been sentenced to federal prison for violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston today. Chad Wayne Hogan, of Orange, Texas, pleaded guilty on Sep. 6, 2016, to money laundering and was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone. Commissioners Meet
The Commissioners discussed possible changes to the county’s Travel Policy Tuesday afternoon. County Auditor Pennee Schmitt reviewed several proposed changes to the current Travel Policy including the maximum amount allowed for overnight accommodations without Commissioners approval. The first item mentioned was the cap on the cost of accommodations for overnight travel. The current limit is $150 and recently the Commissioners have granted several exceptions to the policy. Woman Scammed Out Of Money, Job
A woman who thought she had a job through the website Indeed.com reported having money stolen through a fraudulent check. The woman filed a complaint Monday with the Orange Police Department. The 20-year-old woman told police she submitted a resume through the job search website and was contacted by a health care team. They told her she would take care of a 65-year-old woman who would move to Beaumont. According to the police report, the company sent her $3,850 and told her to deposit the check to buy a wheelchair, oxygen tank and other supplies. The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Fashion Design and Culinary Arts students went to the Art Institute of Houston recently to explore the opportunities available in those fields. They toured the campus and admissions gave presentations of the programs offered by the Institute. The trip included lunch at their culinary student-run restaurant called Courses.
