Albert Cleveland Jones 64, died on February 4, 2017 in Beaumont, Texas after a short illness. Mr. Jones was loved by many family and friends in the community. He was a native of Monroe, Louisiana and resided in Orange most of his life. He was a 1971 graduate of Lutcher Stark High School. Mr. Jones was retired from Orange County, Texas. Bobcat Iron Competes at LCM
Thursday: On Thursday February 9th the Orangefield Powerlifting team competed in the LCM Invitational Meet. In the Boy’s division, Finishing 2nd were Gavin Jackson in the 114lb class, David Fear in the 198lb class and Aaron Galitz in the SHW class. Finishing 3rd was Quy Tsan (148’s), Joseph Auer (181’s) and Luke Padilla in the SHW class. In the Girl’s division, Finishing 1st was Madison Taylor in the 123lb class with a total lift of 715 lbs. Pirates Ready For Postseason
The Deweyville basketball team, under first year Coach Hunter Estes, is heading to the playoffs for the first time since 1999. With two games to play the Pirates are currently tied with West Hardin for second behind Evadale in District 24-2A. They host Hull-Daisetta Friday and travel to Sabine Pass on Tuesday. Estes is a hometown boy, graduating from Deweyville in 2011 where he was one of the Pirates top athletes, averaging more than 20 points a game during basketball season. New LSCO Building On Schedule
A wet start hasn't dampened construction efforts on the new Lamar State College-Orange general academics building on Green Avenue. College President Dr. Michael Shahan said work is on schedule to have the building ready for the new academic year in the summer. "It's really going well," he said. "We're on schedule still in in budget and no big surprises." The ground-breaking ceremony for the new building had to be held inside the college gym because of soggy ground and rain storms.
