Saving the best for last the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears went on an incredible run at the end of the 2016 season. The Bears won a play-in game and then advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. One of the key players in that stretch late last year was Michael Lee, and Coach Steve Griffith is happy to have Lee back. Last season the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs started well in tournament play, but then struggled when the district games rolled around. Coach Joseph Viator begins his third season mentoring the Lady Mustangs, and he hopes to start building the program backup this year. Viator has a strong core of seniors returning. Elecia Barlow, Ja’tayjah Vital, Alexis Holt, and Jara Edwards have all played since they were freshmen at West Orange-Stark. Wienerschnitzel Looking For Return To Pinehurst
Fans of the Wienerschnitzel restaurant on MacArthur Drive in Pinehurst may only have another couple of months to wait for one of their great hot dogs. Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood indicated the city’s code enforcement and building officials have met recently with contractors hired by the Wienerschnitzel. Permits for remodeling the restaurant will be sought from the city in the near future. The renovations will include upgrades to the restaurant, new equipment, three new grease traps to help with waste water treatment, and a repaving of the parking lot. Evan Toohey (center) won first at the Anahuac tournament held at Chambers County golf course. He shot 77 to lead the Bears. Trey Love shot a season low 82, Jack Tindel 87, Blade Broussard 88 and Spencer Johns 93.
