On March 5 at 7:51 PM, Officers of the Orange Police Department were dispatched to Crawdad’s convenience store at 4080 IH-10 in reference to a robbery. The suspect was described by the clerk as a black male wearing a black mask, and wearing all black clothing. An undetermined amount of money was taken from the register. The clerk was not injured. The robbery is currently under investigation by the Detective Division of the Orange Police Department. James E. (Jimmy) Hooker was born on May 19, 1933, to William Maxwell Hooker and Robbie Ruth (Butler) Hooker in Tenaha, Texas. He graduated from Tenaha High School and attended Texas A&M University. He joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp LeJeune during the Korean War. After the Marine Corps, he went to work for DuPont, retiring after 36 years of service and went into business for himself. Velma (Staples) Kossa-McGrew, 95, formerly of Beeville, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017. Mrs. Kossa-McGrew was born to Ross and Ola Staples on Jan. 11, 1922, in Tuleta. She married Edwin Kossa, and they were active in St. Joseph Catholic Church and school. In 2006, she married Elbert McGrew. She was a homemaker as well as director of the Bee County Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed playing dominoes with her many friends, being a member of a local dance club, and she also loved to polka. Mary Elizabeth Denton, age 72 of Orange, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Pinehurst Nursing and Rehabilitation. Mary was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 13, 1945. Mary was a member of the Pinehurst Pentecostal Church. She worked for many years with Polo Restaurant as a cook.
