There is only one incident reported, but Pinehurst Police Chief Fred Hanauer is investigating a possible phone scam. The incident occurred on Tuesday. Pinehurst Alderman Dan Mohon said that he received a call which the caller-ID on his telephone showed was from Baptist Hospital. After Mohon answered the telephone the caller spoke with an accent and began asking Mohon for his credit card information implying that there was interest owed. Thefts Around Town
An estimated $7,500 worth of cigarettes was reported stolen from the back of a truck parked at a local hotel Monday night. Orange police went to the Best Texas Inn and Suites about 11 p.m. after a call from the truck driver. He had parked his 18-wheel rig and when he went to check on it, he discovered the lock to the trailer had been cut. Five large boxes of assorted brands of cigarettes were missing. Each box was valued at $1,500. - A resident in the Charlemont subdivision reported three motorized push-style lawn mowers had been stolen from his back yard. Unusual Accidents
Sunday was a day of strange collisions. At 3:30 in the afternoon, a car ran into a house on 23rd Street in the Charlemont subdivision. Four hours later, a washing machine that came off a trailer hit two vehicles. No injuries were reported in either incident. The house at 3025 23rd Street had bricks broken after a Dodge Stratus hit it.
