Bruce Lee Chance, 37, of Orange, is in jail after being stopped on a traffic offense. Texas Rangers say he is the prime suspect in a murder in Tyler County near Dam B. Commissioners Get Update From Way
A special Wednesday morning session of Commissioners Court included an update from Way Services on the progress of the energy efficiency modifications to the Orange County Courthouse and other county buildings. Ken Kelsey with Way Services informed the Court of the status of several rehabilitation projects on the Courthouse, the jail, and other facilities. The work to retrofit the lighting in all the county buildings is about 60 percent complete with several of the facilities having 90 percent or better of the lights done. Bailiff Retires After 30 Years
A crowd gathered in the 128th District Court Wednesday afternoon around the taped outline of a human body. Crime scene tape decorated a table with cake and other goodies. The unusual set-up was created for the retirement party of Deputy James Lucia, who has served as the court bailiff for State Judge Courtney Arkeen (left) for the past few years. Lucia is retiring after 30 years with the Orange County Sheriff's Office. The decorations included a height chart so guests could get a "mug shot" with Lucia. Shooting On 10th In Orange
On March 8, 2017 at 12:08 P. M., City of Orange police officers were dispatched to the intersection of 10th St. and Rein Ave. in reference to a person shot. Officers arrived and located Centarius Chavis, 24, on the ground with a single gunshot wound to his left shoulder. Chavis was awake and responding to officers. Acadian ambulance responded and transported Chavis to a local hospital in Beaumont. Chavis was later released from medical treatment. A person walking their dog in the Cypress Bayou subdivision Wednesday morning called Orange Police after seeing a truck at the bottom of a gulley near The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at the corner of Hazelwood and Red Oak. On Tuesday, a thunderstorm had filled the gulley full of water. Fearing the worst authorities began searching the gulley while also trying to find out who owned the 1993 Chevrolet pick-up.
