A former professional boxer charged with aggravated assault in connection with a shooting Wednesday surrendered to Orange police Thursday afternoon. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said 23-year-old Oshaquie Foster has been charged with felony aggravated assault in connection with shooting 24-year-old Centarius Chavis. Chavis was shot in the left shoulder about noon Wednesday outside a house at Tenth Street and Rein Avenue. Chavis was treated and released from a Beaumont hospital. Budget Suggestions
A full courtroom of department heads, employees, and even a few citizens attended today’s budget workshop of the Commissioners Court. The workshop was called by County Judge Brint Carlton to discuss ways to recoup the more than three million dollars spent in the settlement of the Montano lawsuit against Orange County. The consensus of those that spoke during the nearly two-hour workshop was it would take the county more than four years to recoup the expense of the Montano payment. Division Collision
Two women were injured Wednesday during a collision between three vehicles, one parked, near the Orange County Courthouse. Orange police reported an SUV ran a stop sign and hit the car in which the women were traveling. The collision was about 1:30 p.m. in the 700 block of West Division Avenue. Police said a Ford Explorer was traveling north on Seventh Street while a Chevrolet Aveo was traveling westbound on Division. The Explorer did not stop for the traffic sign and hit the Aveo. Seven Students Sent To Hospital
The Vidor school district reports that seven girl students at Vidor Junior High were taken by ambulance to a Beaumont hospital Thursday morning after taking over-the-counter cold medications. One of the girls had brought the medication in pill form to school. The girls began vomiting and went to the school nurse's office. Emergency responders were then called. Students at Bridge City Intermediate have had a great time participating in Jump Rope for Heart. They've learned lots of different ways to jump rope while learning the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. We also raised money for the American Heart Association. Wednesday was a typical busy day in the Orange County Clerk's office. Brandy Robertson, the elected official in charge of the office, was manning the counter during the lunch hour.
