Bears Open Spring Break With Wins
The LCM baseball team played Cleveland in a double header Monday. The Bears made quick work of the Indians, winning 13-3 and 13-0. The Bears open district March 21 at WOS, a game you can hear on KOGT Radio. On Tuesday: WOS travels to Liberty Vidor will host Central Deweyville will host High Island - LCM softball beat Diboll 4-0. Woman Dies After Being Shot
On March 13, 2017 at 5:48 P.M. the City of Orange Police Department received a phone call advising of a person shot in the 1500 Blk. of Main Ave. behind Sabine River Ford. Officers arrived and discovered a white female victim had been shot once in the upper back. The victim was identified as 24 year old Megan Smith. Ms. Smith was transported to a local Beaumont hospital where she was pronounced deceased. A white male was questioned and released. Weekend Police Reports
An 18-wheel truck rig on Martin Luther King Drive hit cows in the roadway early Saturday morning. Orange police report the driver was not injured, but the cows died. Police were called at 12:27 a.m. to the 1300 block of MLK Drive near 16th Street. Officer B.I. Besser said the Volvo truck owned by Averitt Express was traveling southbound on MLK when it hit the group of cows. The front bumper of the truck was damaged. The driver was a 44-year-old Louisiana man. Police were not able to find the owner of the cows. WO Not Happy With Audit Report
The City of West Orange is not happy with its audit report from last fiscal year. It is not because of what the audit says, but instead the city cannot get what the audit says. Monday for the second straight month accountants Sandersen and Sheffer failed to provide the Fiscal Year 2016 Audit Report to the City Council during its meeting. West Orange is now only holding one council meeting a month, and the next meeting is scheduled for April 10. Mayor Pro Tem Shirley Bonnin chaired the meeting for Mayor Roy McDonald who was ill. Paul Maurice Janeaux, 50, of Bridge City passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston. Paul was born in Chico, California on June 6, 1966 to parents Shirley Jean (Cowart) and Donald Maurice Janeaux. He was a resident of Bridge City and was a marine surveyor for the last year.
